GUN Training

The Kittery Police Department does not provide any training courses.

Pursuant to Title 25 M.R.S.A., Chapter 252, Section 2003, sub-section 1(E)5, all new applicants must demonstrate to the issuing authority knowledge of handgun safety.  The Kittery Police Department will accept documentation from the U.S. Military within the last five (5) years, documentation from the National Rifle Association (or certified affiliate), or Certification of Completion from the Southern Maine Technical College course called, "Gun in the Home," or documentation from a State sanctioned Hunter Safety Program.

The courses listed are for your information only.  The fact that they are listed should not be construed to mean the Kittery Police Department officially endorses or supports the person or organization supplying the training.  The Kittery Police Department does not certify the course content, its instructors or the organization represented, nor do we assume any liability if you participate in any of the programs listed.  You should make your training selection based upon your own inquiries.  We merely provide you with a starting point.
